The Community Diabetes Education Program provides on-site retinal photos and interpretation to screen for diabetes retinopathy in collaboration with the UC Berkeley Optometric Department.
The American Diabetes Association recommends and initial eye exam at the time of initial diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and regularly thereafter to detect the early onset of retinopathy so that it can be treated effectively.
